Welcome!

Hello AWC Friends!

This is absolutely my favorite time of year in Sevilla—the azahar is blooming, and Semana Santa is nearly upon us. Whether you love the celebration and spectacle, or are taking the opportunity to get out of town for awhile, I hope you make the most of the city’s biggest event!

Our AWC activities this month include our regular Tuesday morning coffee and chat—the Breakfast Club—on the 2nd of April. There is also a walk planned for Sunday the 9th in Alcalá de Guadaira, an 8 km loop that follows the river. Join us for the Book Club and our monthly Luncheon, coming up after Holy Week. Other activities and events will be added also, so be sure to check the AWC calendar to see what is new! And, of course, follow the AWC WhatsApp group for the latest updates!

The April Board Meeting will be held on Monday April 8th. All members are always welcome at our monthly board meetings, where we check in with each other and plan Club events. (Of course, if all 170 of you show up at once, it will be standing room only—wouldn’t that be great?) We would love to see you! We will be talking about next year’s slate of AWC Board and Committee Leaders, and we would love to have your ideas as we make plans for next year.

Keep in mind our annual AWC Book Exchange, to be held on Friday, May 17 for the benefit of AWC’s charities. Start putting aside your books to donate now! This is one of the biggest events of the AWC calendar, giving us a chance to see old friends and connect with new ones—so I hope you will all be able to stop by, buy some books, and say hello!

The three pillars of the American Women’s Club are:
• Social…..meeting other English-speaking women and joining each other for coffee, tapas, monthly luncheons, kids’ groups, plus many more activities. If you are new to the city, come and pick our brains, we have a fund of knowledge of Sevilla among us!
• Cultural…..join us for concerts of all varieties, visit museums and heritage sites, borrow books from our excellent Library, join the Book Club, Movie Night, Games Nights, etc. etc…
• Charitable…..help us give back to the city that has given us so much pleasure. We support a couple of local charities: Sonrisa de un Nino supports poor children and their families, and El Pozo Santo gives shelter to the elderly.  We raise funds by having Mince Pie events, home-made cake and coffee mornings, our very successful Christmas raffle, and other events….have you any ideas?  We would love to hear from you.
