Welcome to February!
It may be the shortest month of the year, but it is full of all sorts of holidays and observances. Some are strictly American ones—like Groundhog Day. (How did you explain that one to your Spanish friends?) The Super Bowl is coming up on the 3rd, Presidents’ Day on the 18th, Oscar Night on the 25th, and of course, it’s Black History Month. Chinese New Year is on the 5th, Valentine’s Day on the 14th; the 25th annual Moda de Flamenco is taking place on the 7-10th… and Día de Andalucía at the end of the month!
The American Women’s Club provides a lot of opportunities in February to learn and socialize and give back to the community. Check the calendar for our regular monthly events: the Breakfast Club, Family Picnic, Movie Night, Games Night, Book Club, and Luncheon. Special events include a concert honoring Mozart’s birthday on the 1st, Charity Quiz Night on the 15th (study up on your trivia!) and a 10k Walk from the Seville Cathedral to Santiponce. Watch for Punchbowl invitations to these activities and others that will come up over the next few weeks.
There is a lot to look forward to this month while we’re waiting for winter to turn the corner into spring. To all our leaders and members who have worked so hard to research and organize these events—thanks for getting me out of the house!
We hope to see you at one of our events!
AWC Seville President
The three pillars of the American Women’s Club are:
• Social…..meeting other English-speaking women and joining each other for coffee, tapas, monthly luncheons, kids’ groups, plus many more activities. If you are new to the city, come and pick our brains, we have a fund of knowledge of Sevilla among us!
• Cultural…..join us for concerts of all varieties, visit museums and heritage sites, borrow books from our excellent Library, join the Book Club, Movie Night, Games Nights, etc. etc…
• Charitable…..help us give back to the city that has given us so much pleasure. We support a couple of local charities: Sonrisa de un Nino supports poor children and their families, and El Pozo Santo gives shelter to the elderly. We raise funds by having Mince Pie events, home-made cake and coffee mornings, our very successful Christmas raffle, and other events….have you any ideas? We would love to hear from you.
Visitors, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org—we would love to have you join us!
